Photographer Ghazar Sargis Melikian in his laboratory
The photograph shows the noted Armenian photographer Ghazar Sargis Melikian (1885–1969) in his first photographic laboratory, where he worked and developed his pictures.
The man, wearing glasses and a long white work coat, stands at a table with photographic equipment: a device mounted on a vertical pole and a lamp. Below the table is a heating radiator, and on the left, a chair.
Melikian had emigrated from Kharberd and settled in the United States. He became known for photographing and documenting the life of the Armenian community in various towns of New England. These photographs have preserved the history and daily life of Armenian communities in the early 20th century.
