The family of Gevorg Minasyan, Tehran, 1905

The photograph shows an Armenian family: a father, a mother and their infant child. It was taken in 1905 in Tehran, Iran. The father, Gevorg Minasyan, is seated and holds the child, who is dressed in white. The mother sits beside him in a combination of national and urban dress, with a small decorated cap and a white veil on her head, and necklaces and a cross at her neck.

This family keepsake is also a testimony to the identity and cultural continuity of an Armenian family living far from the homeland.
