Armenian nuns
The photograph shows 4 Armenian nuns in traditional monastic dress. They wear dark head coverings and long, wide-sleeved light-coloured robes with dark embroidered decoration on the chest and long bands decorated with crosses. They hold books with crosses on the covers. They stand by a door in front of a wall covered with greenery.
Their clothing and crosses speak of faith and discipline. These women played an important role in preserving Armenian spiritual life through prayer, education and service to the community. Such photographs remind us that Armenian spiritual heritage was also preserved through the devotion of women.
