The Azaryan Apartment building in Constantinople
The Azaryan Apartment building (Azaryan Apartmanı) is a historic building in Constantinople (Istanbul), on İnönü Street in the Beyoğlu district. It was designed by the Armenian architect Levon Gurekian and built in 1903 for the Azaryan family in the Art Nouveau style.
The building was originally known as the Azaryan Apartment, but after the Azaryan family was forced to move to France, it was renovated and renamed Gümüşsuyu Palas.
The photograph shows the richly sculpted façade of the multi-storey building, with arched windows, balconies with wrought-iron railings and an arched entrance. A passer-by stands on the pavement.
