Ghazaros Shovroyan, prince of Zeitun
The photograph shows Ghazaros Shovroyan in Zeitun. He was one of the four princes of Zeitun and one of the three main leaders of the first Zeitun resistance in 1862. Shovroyan played an important role in organising local self-government and armed self-defence under the pressure of the Ottoman Empire.
The moustached man is seated, one arm resting on carved wooden furniture. He wears a wrapped headdress, a long coat with a dark collar and a wide sash at his waist.
