Designer Michael Aram Volokhojian
Michael Aram Volokhojian was born in Providence, Rhode Island. He is the grandson of Genocide survivors from Arabkir and Kharberd. Since his youth he loved traditional Indian metalworking techniques and turned the works he made with them into a world design brand with Armenian roots. He released his first collection of metal objects in 1989, after a trip to India. Today his works are sold in more than 600 outlets worldwide, and a boutique bearing his name opened in Manhattan in 2007.
He sits on the board of directors of the Children of Armenia Fund, supports the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies, and made the spire cross and metal decorations for his local Church of Saint Gregory the Illuminator. He lives in New York with his family.
The photograph shows him in a workshop holding a metal piece, with hammers and other tools on the table.
